Projects around the Casa

don repairing table_smallAfter Leslie and I got back from our “border run” to San Diego a couple of weeks ago, I was setting up for español class when I noticed we were missing a folding table.

I found it – but somehow a leg had been ripped loose and the table had been set aside.  So a trip to Home Depot!  But for me, that was a bit intimidating because that meant a taxi ride to and back.

Why intimidating?  A couple of reasons.  First, we’d already been ripped off by our first taxi ride here in Mexico City – getting the “scenic” tour around the city.  Second, I felt wobbly with my español and didn’t want to sound so much like a gringo.  Finally, there are “bandit” taxis we’d been warned about – but that’s for another blog post.

But nothing ventured nothing gained and off I went.  Success!  My español worked fine and I was efficiently whisked to and fro – and because we’ve lived here for 6 months I knew where I was and where I was going – in case the drivers wanted to try and give me a “scenic” tour!
